It’s been a while since I wrote the last time. I was pretty busy the last few days because I’m now taking prep classes for the SAT and ACT tests I’m going to take in December. Our team played bad the last few games and our Coach got really mad at us. Therefore he made us get up at 4 am to be at the gym at 5 o’clock. After the gym we had to skate from 7 to 8.30. We had an other workout at 3 pm and an on-ice practice right after. We did that 6 days straight. That was probably the hardest week I’ve ever gone through but I know that we deserved to be punished. I think wecame closer together as a team and we started to learn what it takes to win hockey games. we played in pink jerseys right after this week to support the Susan G. Coman foundation to fight breast cancer. I think that this was a great thing and I enjoyed to play in different outfits. We also had a golf tournament with all the Wildcats supporters. It was my first time golfing but I really liked it and I decided to start playing now. I found out that I have one strength in golfing: hole-in-ones
Just kidding, I wish this would be my strength. I unfortunately missed our last game we had in Texas against the Tornado because I was sick. But I feel great now and I know that I’m ready to play good hockey the next game. We are going to play against Corpus Christi all our next 4 games at home. I hope that we can get a couple wins. I’m really looking forward to these games.
The last time I wrote, I said that I’m getting a little bit better every game. And this was true. I improved my game from day to day and finally I scored my first goal against Topeka last saturday. We lost both our games against Topeka though, the first one in overtime and the second one 1:5. The second one was probably our worst game this season but I’m convinced that we will take revanche for that the upcoming weekend in Topeka. I also had my first fight in North America. I’m used to play hard and had some fights once in a while back home in Europe but it was new to me to fight without gloves. So I didn’t really know what to do first but when the other guy punched me I got mad and landed a couple good ones and was on top of him at the end. Some fans were very surprised that they saw an European player fighting but it seemed that they liked what they saw. I’m going to take my final exams for my English classes that I’m taking at the College in Wichita Falls right now next week, so I think that I will have to study a lot between the games in Topeka. But I like to have to do something before and after games so that I have a little avocation from the hockey. For this reason, I think that I’m totally ready to play two great games next weekend. Last week, me and three other players went as volunteers to a junior high school in Wichita Falls. It was a great experience to please the kids with autographs and making pictures with them. It was just fun and I’m already looking forward to doing something like that again.
As soon as I arrived here everybody was talking about the Showcase tournament in Blaine. For this reason I started to get really excited for our our trip to Minnesota. What I didn’t know first was that we will have a 16 hour bustrip to get there. In Switzerland our longest bustrips were about 6 hours. So that was for sure something new or me. Fortunately I can sleep wherever I am and for this reason the journey wasn’t as hard boring as I expected. We arrived in Blaine last Thursday around 12 pm and immediately checked out the impressive complex which includes 8 rinks. We had our first practice at 3 o’clock the same day and our first game the day after. We didn’t start good: We lost our first three games against St. Louis, Kenai River and Minot but we played great hockey the last day against Austin and won at least our last game. I’m a little bit disappointed about my game but I think it is normal that european players need some games to get used to the different style of hockey. However, I think that my game got a little better every game. This week we’re goint to play twice against Fairbanks and we are ready to play great hockey.
I arrived in Wichita Falls after a 19 hour trip from Zurich, over London and Dallas. When I got out of the plane I almost felt down because it was that warm. My billets told me later that they’re having their hottest summer since years. More than 42 degrees everyday for now almost 100 days. I thought I won’t survive that. But now, 4 days later, I’m already accustomed to the new climate. I have a really kind billet family. I’m living here with billet parents, their three dogs and our goaltender. The dogs help me a lot that I’m not sleeping in every day, they make me get up around 7am. I already met our Coaches and i had a really good first impression. The last few days I was hanging around with some guys from the Wildcats and we had a good time. They took me to my first highschool football game. It was a great game where the local school, called ROHO, was behind 28-0 after halftime and finally won 35-36. Today I went to the mall with some guys and bought a new suit, because I left mine at home. Our training camp will start next Tuesday and I’m really looking forward to skating with the team. After my first few days in Texas, I defenately feel that I and Scandhock.com made the right decision for this season.
